Magnetic Tile Lamp
Prague Junior Summer Studio
Duration: 3 Weeks
Design a souvenir inspired by the Czech Republic and Czech designers focusing on interaction between the product and User
Design Brief
Inspiration
Initial Concepts
For these initial concepts we focused on just getting Ideas out and not worrying about interaction with the user. The goal was to be inspired by the city around us to create items that we would personally enjoy having.
Refined Concepts
Here we focused more on user interaction and how people can bring home a souvenir that becomes more of a part of their life than just an Item to look at
I explored a few basic ideas here such as adjustable lighting with charms to customize user experience, a chisel set with patterns to carve inspired by the craftsmanship seen in Czech culture, and finally a flat pack cabinet/ jewelry box inspired by architecture within the city
Product Refinement
I then expanded upon the 2 ideas with the most potential for the prompt. A wood carving/ block printing set and an magnetic tile lamp inspired by the amazing glass blowers in the country
Final Design Direction
The final step in this design process was making the tile lamp feel more reminiscent of the city and less like a traditional tiffany style lamp. Here is where I ended in multiple potential outcomes inspired by cubism and other architecture that can only really be found in Prague
Modeled in Rhino 8 and rendered in Keyshot
